Abstract
The Open Heart Furnace is a manuscript of poems about my family history and my own coming of age. It toggles between my Polish grandparents’ and great-grandparents’ survival of WWII and my own life of privilege in the USA. In each poem, I attempt to uncover and illuminate a story or feeling that could otherwise remain invisible or forgotten. I hope that the poems in this collection serve as portals that beam readers to different moments in time and space.
