Abstract
The road to Limuru, Kenya runs beside a mission hospital named Nazareth; this much is true. In these fictional accounts, if the walls — even when topped by glass shards — can be breached by violence, if troubles come inside the gigantic gate, the characters nonetheless discover that compassion, too, can invade. As they care for the sick, they pay the personal costs of belonging to this high, green, misty ridge in Africa during the AIDS epidemic and the ascendancy of modern ways.
