Abstract
Bonfire Night and Other Stories is a collection of short stories that deal in the speculative subgenres of fiction writing. Embracing elements of the fantastic, these stories trace characters and their cultural heritage in the United Kingdom and United States. Under the surface of every innocuous situation, the past, history, and collective memory seep out from the cracks in common perception to expose the fragility of our world and our place in it. From the young American girl who witnesses an execution trial through soap bubbles to a young British man who meets a sea god in an underwater court, these characters learn to invoke the past to see to the future.
