Abstract
Children of the Sun is a novel presented as main character Clay Felts's Master's thesis in anthropology. The story migrates from the Columbia Basin of Eastern Washington to the Peruvian Andes, following Clay's quest to translate Inca quipu knots. The novel engages with several themes, the most pervasive of which is the inscrutability of the human experience. From this foundation, the story goes on to explore the importance of family versus material accomplishment, the effects of discovery and loss, and the colonial enterprise.
