Abstract
Escape Velocity is a tale of flight with roots in a young naval aviation candidate and lost dreams, but it becomes much more. In fleeing a patterned desk job in Washington, DC, and the city's congested warren-like streets I discovered much about America, her people, and, most thoroughly, about myself. Essentially, I see the most interesting of travel writers as part rogue, part adventurer, and part minstrel and I strive to keep up this triumvirate tradition by discussing not only an adventure of sights and sounds, but also one of feel for the tangible experiences I encountered on my journey of ten thousand miles seeking a new home and reason for existence. On the road I pondered concepts of fear and a lack of courage in craven servitude to corporate America, ultimately leading to understanding what I want in life and, maybe just as importantly, that which I do not want.
