Abstract

Every day, when reading the paper or watching the six o'clock news, women and men living in the post-World War II era must confront existential issues of powerlessness, meaninglessness, freedom, and death.

Nevertheless, we persist in seeking order, beauty, justice, and eternity.

The seven stories in this collection portray characters caught in conflict between their desires for an ideal world and the poignantly tangible absence thereof.
