Abstract
I really appreciate the subtlety and finality of a poem, the experience of being able to focus in one place. When I write, I search for the moment in a poem that says "yes," the moment where the poem becomes something more than just what is on the page. I see writing a poem as an experience much more than an activity. It is not so much a release or outlet as it is a platform, confessional, understanding friend, or a way to express or find meaning in the sometimes mechanical, cyclical, or mundane routines of existence. Rain in My Blood is a collection of poems that explores the themes of love and lust, identity, yearning for connection, and an overarching sense of discovery and personal definition in terms of gender, roots, and in the grander context of the world. The collection may borderline a coming-of-age feeling in ce1iain poems but more importantly will hopefully reach an audience on more of a "what is it that defines self' and "who we are and can be" in connection with the world we live in.
