Abstract
Still Life with Sierra is a memoir about a family's efforts to heal after a fatal accident. On August 18, 1990, Sierra Sijswerda drowned at the age of two years, nine months, and eight days, leaving behind her parents, Peggy and Peter Sijswerda, and her two brothers, Scott and Jasper. This memoir traces the family's journey as they seek to find happiness by rebuilding their lives and identities through various means, including a trans-Atlantic move, extended travel, the birth of a third son, support from each other, lessons from nature, and self-awareness. Ultimately, these measures combine to bring healing to this family.
