Author/Artist Bio

Anthony Swofford is the author of the memoir Jarhead as well as a novel Exit A. His writing has appeared in Harper’s, the Guardian, Slate, The New York Times, The Daily Beast, and others. He has taught at the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop and Lewis and Clark College. His forthcoming book is a biography of Carlos Arredondo, a Gold Star Father and hero of the 2013 marathon bombing in Boston, and he will write an adaptation of this book for HBO Films.

Michael Pearson, Co-director of the Festival, welcomed the audience and presented student winners of various English Department writing awards.

Pearson then introduced speakers Adam Flores and Norton Girault from Writers in Community, and Anthony Swofford.

Adam Flores began reading at 8:56 and Norton Girault at 15:15. Anthony Swofford read from 00:25:10-1:07:40.

At 1:07:50, Ken Daley, Art Professor, discussed the student exhibit PRESSing Matters: Cross-Collaboration and Explorations in Literature, Art, and Politics. [Note: Ken was erroneously identified as Stirling Goulart in the video caption.]
