Yusef Komunyakaa does a meditation on the color blue at the beginning of his essay collection, Blues Notes—and the results are part autobiographical, part whimsy, and all imagination.
Take a color, any color, and do 10 minutes of free writing.
Then go back and cull from that free writing some of the best lines
for the makings of a poem.
