21 - Monarch Balance for Life: Community-Engaged Falls Risk Assessment

Description/Abstract/Artist Statement

The Monarch Balance for Life program brings together research, clinical innovation, and community collaboration to advance the science and practice of falls prevention. This interactive exhibit will showcase our multifactorial falls risk assessment protocol, developed and refined through interdisciplinary research and community partnerships. Participants will be invited to engage in key assessment components, including grip strength testing with hand-held dynamometry, visual screening, coordinated stability evaluation, and reaction time measurement. Space permitting, a gait analysis using a pressure-sensitive walkway will also be available. In addition to live demonstrations, we will share recent research findings aimed at improving falls risk assessment protocols and building sustainable, community-based interventions to support healthy aging. Our goal is to foster collaboration across disciplines to reduce fall-related injuries and promote aging in place.
