26 - First Partial Total Synthesis of Triterpenes

Description/Abstract/Artist Statement

Triterpenes are natural products with notable cytotoxic activity against human lung carcinoma cells. This research focuses on developing the enantiomer of the left-winged fragment of one of the triterpenes using readily available farnesol with two key steps. Additionally, this pathway enables the synthesis of various existing analogs that may have additional biological activity. Strategies, methodologies, and synthetic efforts will be discussed.
