"Bridge to Beyond: Forming the Foundation of an Authentic Voice for Middle School Students and Their Parents"

Presenter Information

Chander Boone, Hampton University

Date

Description

The purpose of this guide is to provide a resource for seventh and eighth grade students and their parents. Students will have an opportunity to become aware of their personal prerogatives, values, and beliefs. With the completion of this guide, the student will have a strong foundation in authenticity that they are to build upon in the years to come and that they are to use when it comes to making plans after high school. The guide is broken into two parts. The first part is the Questionnaire; this part of the guide queries the student’s interests, strengths, and weaknesses and is specifically for the student to fill out in order to outline the foundation of their authentic voice. The second part of the guide, the Timeline, guides students from middle school and beyond through the stages of authentic voice development. I created this guide for middle school students because I do not want to see them rushed into making life-altering decisions or see them let life pass them by because they did not know what was best for them in that moment. It will definitely take some time, but in the years to come, millions of students will be able to step out into the real world, armed with authenticity and ready to navigate their self-created life map strategically and triumphantly.
