My poster explores the role of technology in American society and ways it is affecting and will likely continue to affect US democracy. Policies, laws, and awareness of security threats and vulnerabilities have not developed at the same rate that society has adopted technology. This is causing major issues in court cases, controversial debates over the right to privacy, and providing a large opportunity for hackers to exploit our unsecured technology and utilize it for criminal purposes. Since the issue of cybercrime will have a great effect on domestic economics and legal regulations, politicians will be forced to address these issues and expedite the development of regulations and policies. Politicians are struggling to decide on some of these controversial privacy issues because they do not fully understand the role of technology in our lives, and my goal is to raise awareness about gaps in regulation and data privacy.
