Brunelleschi's Dome on the Cattedrale do Santa Maria del Fiore (Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower) in Florence, Italy is the architectural pinnacle of the city. Finished in 1436 as the largest masonry project in the world, the cathedral is still to this day a defining part of Florence’s skyline, and is visited by millions each year. On March 25th, 1436, the grand opening for the cathedral was held which included a work written especially for the event by Guillame Dufay called Nuper rosarum flores (The Rose Blossoms Recently). This virtual poster describes the architectural aspects of the dome and the significance of Dufay’s composition in 15th-century Italy.
