About the Poet

Born in Sfax, Tunisia, where he pursued his undergraduate education, Dr. Mounir Laroussi came to the USA in 1981 and received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1988. He held a faculty position at Old Dominion University from 2002 to 2024. Dr. Laroussi is internationally known for his research work on low temperature atmospheric pressure plasmas and their biomedical applications. For his scientific achievements he was elevated to the grade of Fellow by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2009, and by the American Physical Society (APS) in 2023. He was awarded the Millenium Medal by IEEE in 2000, the 2012 IEEE-NPSS Merit Award, as well as other prestigious national and international awards.

Dr. Laroussi is presently an ODU emeritus professor. In addition to his scientific interests, he writes poetry and short stories. He also still serves on several editorial boards of scientific journals.
