Chapman Hood Frazier’s The Lost Books of the Bestiary was a finalist for the V Press Poetry Award. His work has appeared in The Virginia Quarterly Review, The Southern Poetry Review, The South Carolina Poetry Review and many other publications and has been nominated for two Pushcart Prizes. Currently, he is working on an artbook collaboration with the artist, Christopher Register, to create a book of bird poems and wood engravings titled The Prophecy of Birds. He is also working on a new full-length collection, Appalachian Sutra.

Co-poetry editor of the Dos Passo’s Review, he has guest-edited an issue of The Hampden-Sydney Poetry Review and while completing a PhD, also co-directed the Young Writer’s Workshop at The University of Virginia. In addition, while at Longwood and James Madison University, he created the Poetry Hit Squad, a group of undergraduate and graduate teacher education students interested in creating innovative poetry lessons and facilitating them in middle and secondary classrooms. He also worked with the Furious Flower Poetry Camp for children at JMU. Now, a professor emeritus from James Madison University, he has also taught poetry at Longwood University, The University of Maine Presque Isle, Southside Virginia Community College, and Murray High School. Currently, he is judging poetry competitions for the North Carolina Poetry Society’s annual adult writing contest.

His “Conversations” with contemporary poets have appeared in The Writer’s Chronicle, Shenandoah and Agni Online. Currently, he is collecting them to be published as a book. This idea grew from a classroom project for high school students to conduct interviews with nationally known writers. This project was awarded The Good Neighbor Award by State Farm Insurance.

A resident of Rice, Virginia, he co-manages The Bellfield Farm, a writer and artist’s retreat and mid-term rental located in central Virginia and is currently a Professor in Residence for JMU with Prince Edward County Schools.
