Abstract

Plasma and erythrocyte glutathione peroxidase activities and selenium concentrations were determined for 38 apparently healthy female subjects. In addition, erythrocyte lead and plasma lead and iron concentrations were determined in each subject.

Effects of age, smoking, vitamin and mineral supplementation, use of caffeinated beverages and oral contraceptives on glutathione peroxidase activity were determined and interelement relationships were investigated using the one tailed t-test and Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficients
