Abstract
We review current understanding of the warm water formation and escape process in the tropical Atlantic Ocean and point out the physical aspects of the process not yet fully explored. From this review, we found a need for a simple model capable of describing the first-order heat and mass balance in the tropical Atlantic Ocean.
