Abstract

[Introduction] Hello and welcome to the community of counselors, advocates, and scholars who read the Journal of LGBTQ Issues in Counseling. In our era of continued political attacks and undermining of gender diverse and sexual orientation diverse people, our editorial board remains committed to creating knowledge that speaks to the inherent worth of LGBTQIQA+ people and related groups. Our histories and communities are dynamic, and we continue to shape standards of care and best practice that not only improve the mental health and well-being of gender diverse and sexual orientation diverse people but help improve the lives of all people and promote respect for our shared rights and humanity. As part of commemorating the 20-year history of the journal, this issue features a special invited editorial from Anneliese Singh, Associate Provost at Tulane University. Dr. Singh is a past-president of the Society for Sexual, Affectional, Intersex, and Gender Expansive Identities in Counseling (SAIGE) and a Fellow of the American Counseling Association and also Division 17 of the American Psychological Association. As a scholar-advocate, practitioner, and elder of our community, Dr. Singh was one of the first and most consistent voices asserting the need for gender-affirming care in counseling, and we are honored to have her perspective on the role of the journal past, present, and future.
