Abstract
Politics, pandemics, and parenting; this narrative combines memoir, oral history, and research to reflect on a family’s turbulent reproductive history. By exploring the complicated reproductive decisions many women will have to make, and have made, in tandem with the changing laws regarding women’s reproductive rights, Pregnancy Island points to issues that have historically polarized this country while furtively promoting alternate agendas. It is my hope to add to conversations concerning necessary institutional changes and stigmas surrounding abortion; to illuminate some of the complexity, both physical and emotional, to draw outdated taboos, and to laugh – because laughter is the best medicine and most of us don’t have access to affordable healthcare.
