Abstract

This manuscript reflects the prolonged exploration of the modern coming-of-age narrative. As such, I wrote toward personal experiences which reflect the process of growing up as an autistic young person. The efforts of this thesis were the subject of constant critique by both mentors and my cohort and were thus subject to constant revision. Problems of pacing, style, and theme appeared and reappeared throughout the process. The results bore a creative work which, accounting for modern literary tastes, defined new literacies through character. Like coming-of-age stories prior, new generations come with new language systems, new behaviors, and old conflicts in new forms. This manuscript and the stories herein shed light on these new experiences.
