Abstract
Sisyphus Uphill is a collection of poems inspired by the mythic struggle of one man who angered the gods by trying to be too much like them. Sisyphus was cursed to roll a heavy boulder up a mountaintop and then watch it tumble back down to the bottom for all eternity. The pitfalls of hubris and the seeming pointlessness of our daily attempts to get ahead both in the rat race and in personal relationships may not contain the high drama of myth, but this material is rife with hidden comedy and tragedy. These poems deal with the everyday and our response to life's disappointments and triumphs. They attempt to shed a clarifying light on emotions and reactions that all too often go unexamined.
