Abstract
Two Heads and an Application: A Journey with Ralph Waldo Emerson is a series of essays that detail my own scholarly journey with the writings and teachings of its titular essayist. These essays not only grapple with my relationship to my many teachers, but also with my own intellectual independence or lack thereof. Through essays about past experiences bathed in the light of present day thought, I showcase how those memories were, unbeknownst to me, a journey toward self-understanding and individuality.
