Abstract
There are many difficulties associated with caregiving including increased levels of stress, depression, and anxiety. Limited research explores the impact of art therapy on caregiver burnout and there is no literature addressing the impact of art therapy on family caregivers of individuals diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. This proposal details an in-depth eight week program design to be implemented in individual sessions. The program outlined explores a series of themes related to a family member’s experience as a caregiver, using art materials as a means of reflection and expression of emotions and feelings associated with this role. The goal of this proposal is to help individuals learn a variety of coping skills to address burnout and stress associated with caregiving.
