Abstract

It is the purpose of this thesis to discuss the origins of the Church of God Publishing House and its publications, to establish the causes of their creation, to trace their progress and development, and to evaluate their contribution to the Christian cause through the year 1935.

Extensive research was done in the Archives of the Church of God, housed in the International Headquarters of the Church of God, Cleveland, Tennessee; Lee College Pentecostal Research Center, Cleveland, Tennessee; Church of God Publishing House Research Library, Cleveland, Tennessee; Archives of the Church of God of Prophecy, Cleveland, Tennessee; Cleveland Public Library, Cleveland, Tennessee; Manuscripts Division-Library of Congress, Washington, D.C.; Virginia Wesleyan College Library, Norfolk, Virginia; and Old Dominion University Library, Norfolk, Virginia. In addition, information was received from the Archives of the Church of the Nazarene, Kansas City, Missouri; Archives of the General Council of the Assemblies of God, Springfield, Missouri; Archives of Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, Oklahoma; and the Asbury Theological Seminary Library, Willmore, Kentucky. The author conducted personal interviews with former employees who worked at the Church of God Publishing House as early as 1916.
