Abstract
This study is part of a mixed media presentation (slide presentation with music and a book) to be used in Art Appreciation classes and Humanities courses in Continuing Education Programs. The project will give general insight into Vincent van Gogh, his work and the feelings generated through his work. It focuses on the following question: Was struggle and hardship necessary for the artist Vincent van Gogh to achieve greater understanding and fulfillment in his work? It is presented in three sections: the reason for his struggle, how it occurred and the results. Van Gogh's paintings and drawings are incorporated with quotes from his letters. The aim of this author is to allow the viewer to experience the artist's work and his thoughts in an attempt to achieve a concentrated understanding of the artist's life as it is projected through his work.
