Human Movement Studies & Special Education

The Department of Human Movement Studies & Special Education is dedicated to excellence in teaching, scholarship and service. We advocate a healthy lifestyle that includes human movement as an essential component of the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of all humans across the life span. Courses of study include health and physical education, sport management, recreation & tourism studies, and special education.

In Fall 2023, the Darden College of Education & Professional Studies reorganized some of its programs. Special Education was added to the Department of Human Movement Sciences, and the Exercise Science program in HMS began its move to the College of Health Sciences.
