Whitewashed America

Abstract/Description/Artist Statement

Whitewashed America is made from a 4’x3’ table and chair set that was repurposed. The red yarn used to crochet the stars and blanket is more than 23 football fields long. The tabletop has an inverted American flag painted onto it, representing the distress and decay of the country and has a precarious lean to it to show the precipice that it's standing on without its own legs. The bleeding stars on top are crocheted and are the peoples’ sacrifice that is flowing out onto the street as the crocheted blanket on the ground. The chairs and the underside of the table are painted an ultra flat black to give ambiguity to what could be supporting the country. Though the chairs are the only thing holding it up, they don't actually have a seat at the table.
