A Drop in the Ocean

Abstract/Description/Artist Statement

I am a multimedia artist that specializes in metals and ceramics majoring in Three Dimensional Media and Material Studies. I am inspired by the unique intricacies and curious natures of aquatic life and their importance in our world.

With each piece, I infuse my love for nature and aquatic ecosystems, and their unique qualities. I always attempt to invoke a sense of serenity, pondering the natural order of life, or giving viewers the feeling as if they are a part of the piece itself. My recent work explores more deeply the inclusion of Betta fish, replicating the ecosystems of my subjects, and showcasing their behaviors. The ecosystems that I study are fragile and are slowly fading away, losing their vitality as the world changes around us.

I often work on a smaller scale, creating with meticulous details to show the vastness of each piece in comparison to reality. My ceramic miniatures and metal artworks work to show the calm and curious nature of aquatic creatures and emphasize the ephemeral moments caught in time. This is accomplished through the usage of fragile mediums and intricate processes to highlight the aspects of every unique being.

Be it large or small, I have found ways to express my love for nature and animals through my own creative process. As an artist, I feel it is important to emphasize the significance of these beings and their fragile environments, and I hope that my works will inspire others to see their beauty.
