Brian Silberman’s play Manifest received the 1998 Clauder Prize and premiered in 1999 at the Portland State Company. His one-act plays about orphans and abandonment in a small Virginia town, Walkin’ Backward and The Gospel According to Toots Pope, received awards from Arena Stage, The American Alliance for Theater Education, the Kennedy Center, and The Poets’ Theatre, among others.

His other plays include Sugar Down Billie Hoak, produced Off-Broadway and in Chicago in 1997, and Feral Music, which recently premiered at Ohio State University. Silberman served in residence at The Edward F. Albee Foundation and The James Thurber House and has taught at New York University, Ohio State University, and Southern Illinois University. He currently teaches at Old Dominion University.
