Double Lives/Double Trouble

The 'double-life'—writer and citizen. How does someone reconcile the daily harangues of the workaday world with the inward search from which all art derives? The late Mark Strand has written, "I stand on one leg while the other one dreams." Perhaps that is one way, but there must be many ways to live as writer-teachers, arts activists, multi-genre creators and other light carriers filling the vast possibilities. This year's festival explores the double-trouble that accompanies the 'double-life' most artists live in an effort to sustain themselves and their practice.
