Abstract
The basic questions under study in this thesis are: 1. Can students who have mastered mathematical theories and concepts apply this knowledge in practical situations? 2. Is the use of a measuring instrument such as standard 12 inch ruler subdivided into inches and 1/16 inch increments a more difficult operation than has previously been supposed? 3. Does mastery of mathematical concepts ensure measurement skills?
