Fred C. Dobbs is a biological oceanographer and Chair of Old Dominion University’s Department of Ocean and Earth Sciences. The poems below were written as part of a course, “Scientists and Poets,” he and Janis Smith (ODU’s Department of English, now retired) taught a decade ago.
