Abstract
This essay takes the well-known and near-canonical figure of John Dos Passos, considering his own claims to a form of radicalism independent of political parties and their perceived ideological rigidity. Drawing upon documentary and non-fiction writings, the essay evaluates the writer’s negotiations of radicalism within the constraints of a so-called national political character.
