A Methodological Approach Regarding the Influences of Alcohol Abstinence on a Recovery Group

Description/Abstract/Artist Statement

Alcohol use disorder or alcoholism is a chronic disease characterized by uncontrolled drinking. Individuals with alcohol dependency are affected both physically and emotionally. Current treatment methods may assist individuals in decreasing their alcohol use or facilitating alcohol abstinence. Within this framework, a study had been carried out based on alcohol addiction and the 12-step programs associated with individuals who are interested in remaining abstinent from alcohol. The program is conducted from a self-help perspective. The importance of the research was to discover if the program met the participants' needs by helping them to remain abstinent and improve their quality of life. During this study, qualitative and quantitative methods were utilized to develop an objective-based evaluation. The data collection comparison included the number of participants who remained abstinent and the number of participants who reported an increase in the quality of life from 2017-2020. Also, the study showed the comparison of how many participants reported being less stressed during the years of 2019-2021. Professional oversight and research-based interventions by clinically trained staff should be implemented to help participants remain abstinent and endure the quality of life.
