Children's Book Illustrations
Description/Abstract/Artist Statement
I created a series of pages from a hypothetical children’s book about paleontology. I believe that getting children interested in science at a young age is critical to help them understand the world around them as they grow up, and that includes studying the prehistoric past. I was inspired by all of the documentaries and books I was exposed to growing up, such as Walking With Dinosaurs and dinosaur encyclopedias. While I did not personally become a paleontologist, my artistic endeavors are heavily based in paleoart. I wanted to use my creative abilities to show how we can reach audiences of any age to gain interest in paleontology and to garner respect for science in general. In a world where people are becoming untrusting of what scientists have to say, whether it is about medicine or climate change, I think helping people understand a topic that everyone can enjoy is key to understanding other aspects of the field.
