Date
April 2020
Description
The Honors Peer Advising Center (HPAC) at Virginia Tech connects honors students in collaborative problem-solving. The HPAC provides support related to honors credit, honors diplomas, and students’ Course of Study Planners, as well as other needs as appropriate. The HPAC’s main service is one-on-one peer advising appointments, but it also offers small-group workshops on topics of common interest, like “Using the Honors Credit Tracker in Canvas.” HPAC advisors are trained to ask questions, to get students actively involved in finding solutions, and to refer students to other resources on campus as necessary. HPAC advisors serve for a year in the position, work four hours per week in the center, and enroll in a 2-credit practicum each semester. HPAC client satisfaction to date has been exceptionally high, and the number of students using the service increases every semester.
