Date
April 2020
Description
Mental health and illness encompasses the emotional, psychological, and social perceptions of well-being, and is influenced by a variety of factors beyond neurobiological causes and symptoms. These other factors include socioeconomic status, access to adequate living conditions, education, job opportunities, healthcare, personal relationships, and time for self-care. We need to become more aware of the social, political, and cultural components of mental health in order to develop public awareness and effective interventions across diverse populations.
