Get on the Bus Proposal: Decreasing the Mortality Rate of Black Transgender Women Through the Fredericksburg City School System

Date

April 2020

Description

In my first-year seminar, Race and Revolution, I have had the pleasure of learning about civil rights leaders and how they fought for my rights. Through his book, "Lay Bare the Heart", my class and I investigate the mechanisms Dr. James Farmer used to plan the Freedom Rides. He "Got On The Bus" for my liberty. My presentation is about the issue for which I would "Get On The Bus". Black transgender women are left armourless against the oppression this society has put on them. Bigotry is learned not innate. I spoke at a school board meeting to express the ways in which local education can fix this gruesome fact. The presentation outlined how, why, and what I did.
