This presentation will address how first generation student experiences may impact a university student’s success. Gabriella Moreno will introduce participants and facilitate the panel discussion. Signira Chisley- Strickler will address how first-generation students experience higher education, issues associated with it, and a possible model for developing programing for first generation student success. Geselle Sanchez-Ramos will be presenting her research on why we should have more first-generation Latinx/Diverse individuals within the Social Work profession and how that will benefit communities that are from the same background. Alexia Munoz-Martinez will be sharing her research on the Latinx first-generation experience, and how JMU can create a better transition for incoming students within the community
