About the Poet
Sharon Perkins Ackerman holds an M.Ed from UVA. Her poems appear in the Southern Humanities Review, Atlanta Review, Kestrel, Valparaiso Poetry Review, Appalachian Places, Salvation South, Broad River Review, Crab Orchard Review, Meridian, Blue Mountain Review, and others. She is the winner of the Hippocrates Poetry in Medicine award, London, 2019 and short-listed for the Arthur Smith Poetry Prize, 2024. She has three poetry collections, the latest is Sweeping the Porch (Pine Row Press, 2026). Ackerman is poetry editor for Streetlight Magazine and serves as judge for the Porches Poetry Fellowship Prize in Nelson County, and is the current secretary for the Poetry Society of Virginia.
