Abstract

This thesis is a science fiction novel attempting to reconcile and understand the experience of living through a political, economic, and environmental collapse. It exaggerates present-day problems and metaphorizes current struggles through science fiction tropes, particularly the cyborg, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence. It is also a technical challenge for me as a writer primarily of short fiction to combine these smaller narratives into a larger story. Methodologically, it was initially written as separate stories, some of which were from before the thesis project was conceived, but these stories were brought together until a unified narrative emerged. The result was a short novel about three characters.
