Author/Artist Bio

Janet Peery won the Rosenthal Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters for her first book Alligator Dance and a Whiting Foundation Writer's Award. Several of the individual stories won awards and were included in the Best American Short Stories (l993). She is the recipient of two Pushcart Prizes, two times winner of the Goodheart Prize from Washington and Lee University, and three times mentioned in BASS's 100 Stories of Distinction. Her novel The River Beyond the World was a Finalist for the l996 National Book Award. In 2000, Writer's Digest cited her as "One of 50 Writers to Watch in the Next Decade." Peery teaches creative writing classes at Old Dominion University.

Writers on stage (Luisa Igloria, Michael Pearson, Janet Peery, Sheri Reynolds, Tim Seibles, and Brian Silberman) read and perform their own works. An evening rich in surprises.
