Jim Simmerman is the author of four full-length poetry collections -- Home, chosen by Raymond Carver as a Pushcart "Writer's Choice" selection; Once Out of Nature, a "Best of the Small Presses" featured exhibit at the Frankfurt Book Fair; Moon Go Away, I Don't Love You No More, nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award; and Kingdom Come. He is co-editor of Dog Music: Poetry About Dogs. A new poetry collection, American Children, is forthcoming in spring 2005. His poems have appeared widely in journals (Antheus, Georgia Review, North American Review, Ploughshares, Poetry, etc.), anthologies (The Bread Loaf Anthology of Contemporary American Poetry, The Poetry Anthology 1912-2002, Pushcart Prize X: Best of the Small Presses, etc.), and textbooks (Literature: Reading, Reacting, Writing; Thirteen Ways of Looking for a Poem; A Guide to Writing Poetry; Western Mind: An Introduction to Poetry; etc.). The recipient of fellowships from the Arizona Commission on the Arts, the Bread Loaf and Port Townsend Writers' Conferences, the Fine Arts Work Center, the Hawthornden Castle International Retreat for Writers, and the NEA, he is Regents' Professor of English at Northern Arizona University.
