Description

Partners in the Parks is a signature program of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC). For the past twelve years, NCHC has offered projects in over 44 different national parks, monuments, trails, rivers, seashores, and recreation areas. Organized in close coordination between the National Park Service leadership, staff, and NCHC affiliated faculty has allowed Partners projects to be designed for intellectually engaging visits to national parks. COVID concerns have caused the cancellation of projects for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. And yet, the importance of spending time outside for physical and mental health has never been more essential. This session will provide a framework to create your own “Partners” park experience integrating the key components of scholarship, stewardship, and recreation. Christina McIntyre has run projects in Great Smoky Mountain and Shenandoah National parks and along the Appalachian Trail in Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland.
